Interpreting

Interpreting demands fast, accurate decisions: unlike a written translator, an interpreter has very little time to choose the right expression or look up unfamiliar words. Interpreters therefore need strong language skills, composure under pressure and confidence when speaking in public. KAPLAN specialists combine extensive experience with knowledge of colloquial language, slang, dialects and relevant subjects such as politics and economics. We offer two main types of interpreting:

1. In consecutive interpreting, the speaker pauses after a passage so the interpreter can convey it in another language. Longer passages require excellent memory and attention to detail. This format is suitable for negotiations, exhibitions, smaller seminars and presentations. It calls for clear delivery, professional presentation and confidence in front of an audience.
2. Simultaneous interpreting takes place while the speaker is talking. It requires intense concentration, as the interpreter listens, translates and delivers the message with minimal delay. The service requires suitable equipment, such as an interpreting booth, interpreter consoles, microphones and headsets for the audience. Interpreters usually work in pairs, alternating every 20–30 minutes. This format is used at large meetings, conferences, seminars and round-table discussions.
